Sushidread meets Axon [Sound]

By Laurent C. on Wednesday March 10, 2010, 17:58 - dub-releases

Sushidread meets Axon [Sound]Again a free release for the pleasure of our ears. That time, it's the net label Al Dente Records which buckles down to this task with the publication on the EP of "Sushidread meets Axon [Sound]" for a spicy collaboration between the two producers.
For people who follows dub-connection, Sushidread is not unknown. Actually, we written review about his preview release, Dub Territories, on the same net label. With the goal to propose us another dub travel, the captain Sushi has chosen the best the map maker as he knows, Axon [Sound].

So, the trip starts by a powerful dub stepper well spiced of melodica before to progress to some hypnotic tones. Offering a sound at the same time dub and breakbeat, slow and heavy, influenced by musics from Middle East. To follow this continuation, the music moves to this heavy breakdub to a sound which is closer of French novo-dub for a transportation to the space. Before a coming back. And as well conclude the EP.

The EP is available in free download on the website of Al Dente Records. There, it is proposed in MP3 format rated at 160 Kbits.
The release is also available in WAV format (CD format) on the website Junodownload.

King DuBear - Chapter One: From The Bear's Den

By Laurent C. on Saturday March 6, 2010, 11:55 - dub-releases

King DuBear - Chapter One: From The Bear's DenIt's a little while ago I would like to write this review about the first release of this producer from Poland. But, February was to short and the time goes so fast. Finally, in this Saturday morning, I take 5 minutes of my time to do that.
So, the "Chapter One: From The Bear's Den" is apparently the first release of the of King DuBear, a dub producer based in Ostróda, Poland. Release distributed under a Creative Commons license and, by this fact, proposed in free download on the net label Paproota. A new Polish net label strictly oriented dub music than I didn't know before. Maybe, we could speak about in a next future.

For his first production, King DuBear presents us an interesting sound. Actually, this one is based at the same on the stepper and the dub roots. By some sides, we can feel some influences from the first dub makers of England in the 1980's but with more contemporary sources of inspiration. Anyway, after reading the mini-bio of the artist, it's about what it's wirting on: inspired by the pioneer of UK sound such as Jah Shaka, King Earthquake or Aba Shanti I. My feeling was the good one ;)
Despite some more modern influences, the sound of King Dubear doesn't go inna electro style. Doesn't want the take the wave of this fashion dubstep. It's so much better like that: dub is dub and could be every things. And more, the style of King DuBear is rather sober. The producer doesn't add to much effects or tones like we can hear some time in some other productions. He doesn't parasite his music by useless patches. By this way, he proposes a crude dub, simple but efficient.
A release to download without hesitation and which must delight everybody who loves dubwise, heavybass and steady skanks.
