Brain Damage feat. Black Sifichi - Burning Before Sunset

By Laurent C. on Monday March 15, 2010, 00:15 - dub-albums

Brain Damage feat. Black Sifichi - Burning Before SunsetNew album for Brain Damage. Actually, the French duet is coming back for a new production with 3 heads. To the bass-machine music is intelligently and smartly grafted the voice of Black Sifichi for the whole of the new production.

In the music side, that we can say it's Brain Damage come back to some sound more dub. In the last album, the duo was doing its own sound, its own music: a music which can't be listed in any kind of style if it's not "electro" in a large sense.
For this new album, Brain Damage base its sound on this style which it's own but come but to the source of their music at the same time. By this fact, the musicians produce a emotional sound placed between a Brain Damage's style, a minimal techno and electro-dub. So, again, they experienced the music. Try to find his limits. And naturally, they come back to dub music to do these experimentations.
Actually, which other music can be appropriate for that? And they know perfectly. For the duet, dub music is just an excuse to challenge the laws of all kinds of music. That true, the sound is closer of the last productions than the dub music developed in the older records. A music wouldn't satisfy the purist, but a music based on dub music anyway.

About the voice. What to say? This is the habitual spoken style of Black Sifichi. A heavy timbre. A tone so particular which married well the music and took its exact shape. We feel than the singer know well the sound of Brain Damage. Or the opposite, maybe.
This voice is born for the music of band. The both together create a sublime and subtle entity.

Panda dub - Black Bamboo

By Laurent C. on Friday March 12, 2010, 14:04 - dub-releases

Panda dub - Black BambooI know what you will think: dub-connection promotes always the same net labels. In fact, not only Original Dub Gathering is a very active label (already 3 releases since the beginning of the year), but it informs us of every release it publishes. So, like that is much more easy to tell about.
The last one is a new release realized by Panda dub: Black Bamboo. The second production of this young French producer on ODG.

As on his first publication, Panda dub presents a dub which is influenced by various kind of musics. The main sound is based on a dub at the same time steppa and electro. We can say the electro-dub influence is more developed on this new production than his previous release. In end, the producer find the good balance between dub stepper and novo-dub. The novo side accentuated by the samples from Ethnic musics and some tones very electro.
Will feel also the influence of some other music makers who are not especially dub producers. Per example, a track remember a famous composition of Yann Tiersen. As well as some others remind us music of various dub master such as the band Improvisators dub. By the way, a track in memory of Manutension, who disappeared the last year and founder of this band, is proposed by Panda dub. Nice.

So, a nice release of 10 tracks distributed for free under a Creative Commons license... don't hesitate to share it.

Sushidread meets Axon [Sound]

By Laurent C. on Wednesday March 10, 2010, 17:58 - dub-releases

Sushidread meets Axon [Sound]Again a free release for the pleasure of our ears. That time, it's the net label Al Dente Records which buckles down to this task with the publication on the EP of "Sushidread meets Axon [Sound]" for a spicy collaboration between the two producers.
For people who follows dub-connection, Sushidread is not unknown. Actually, we written review about his preview release, Dub Territories, on the same net label. With the goal to propose us another dub travel, the captain Sushi has chosen the best the map maker as he knows, Axon [Sound].

So, the trip starts by a powerful dub stepper well spiced of melodica before to progress to some hypnotic tones. Offering a sound at the same time dub and breakbeat, slow and heavy, influenced by musics from Middle East. To follow this continuation, the music moves to this heavy breakdub to a sound which is closer of French novo-dub for a transportation to the space. Before a coming back. And as well conclude the EP.

The EP is available in free download on the website of Al Dente Records. There, it is proposed in MP3 format rated at 160 Kbits.
The release is also available in WAV format (CD format) on the website Junodownload.
