Dub Engine by Dub Engine
Always a little bit late, dub-connection likes to present you some interesting releases that we can find on the web. The release of the moment was published already one month ago on the new netlabel Irie On Air.
Dub Engine is the second release proposed by this labellized reggae and dub Italian website. It's also the first one in dub: Proposed by Dub Engine under the name Dub Engine. Practical name that it can help us to remember their name. Thank!

So, what about Dub Engine? Dub Engine is a duo composed of Nicolò Tucci, programming/Keyboards, and Sabrina Ferro as vocalist and percussionist. In one way the Italian Alpha & Omega, by a the form and also by the sound sometime.
Actually, the duo is influenced as well by the masters of dub roots from Jamaica, the French touch of dub music and the British steppers. And, that true, we can feel all this influences on the music of Dub Engine.
The musical mixture found in this first album is very well realised. The sound produced proposes by moment a good heavy stepper. And by some other side, a lighter dub more sweet with nice flow. For finish this "review", we need to point out the participation of guests. To conclude the album, it's another Italian to take part of the production: the Lazza Dub Collective for an excellent brassed dub experience.
Just before this, was the guest star of the release with Scientist in person at the control. Great result!

A production who should be on your collection of free releases. And more, this one is with a good sound quality (320 kbits).

The Blackstarliners - Roaring Lion

By Laurent C. on Thursday January 28, 2010, 17:00 - dub-releases

The Blackstarliners - Roaring LionIn middle of the net labels which proposes some good dub plates in free download, it's one particularly active. And more, it is fully consecrated to dub music. By this fact, we talk often about it on the blog: it's the netlabel ODG of the French band Ondubground.
And so, again, the label proposes us a rather good release. This time, it's a band from Britain (the French one, not the Great) who presents an new EP. A band called The Blackstarliners.

The Blackstarliners is a band created in year 2006 mainly by the producer Ayato who practises dub music since more of 10 years about. The sound of the band is fully influenced by the UK stepper. The members have also shared stage with some of their prestigious idols such as Zion Train, Disciples, Bush Chemists or others Improvisators Dub, Kanka during some live sessions. Just some references on the kind.
By listening Roaring Lion, we can feel this different experiences and meetings. Actually, the EP develops a very powerfull dub stepper worthy of this named artists or bands. A sound, that I can say, remind the stepper of another great dub producer: Weeding dub. To tell how the music proposed is effective and extremely powerfull.
And at the same time, very melodic with a nice female voice for a sweet flow. So, don't hesitate to go to download it. The quality is there is every level.

To conclude, a little word in memory of Manutension who left us the last year. Actually, this release was mixed in his studio. I had also remixed Faya Dub. Version proposed as second track of the EP.

02. Faya dub (Manutension mix)

Vuelo meets Tony Dubshot - The Vuelo Tapes

By Laurent C. on Tuesday January 26, 2010, 14:33 - dub-releases

Vuelo meets Tony Dubshot - The Vuelo TapesNew release in free download for this end of January: The Vuelo Tapes. This one is born for a collaboration between the dub producers Vuelo, from Huston in Texas (USA), and Tony Dubshot from the not highland of Netherlands.
Published on the Tony Dubshot's net label, DUBBHISM, The Vuelo Tapes proposes a dub roots composed exclusively of analogical sounds. It presents a very good dub vintage. A dub old school which is far way of the fashionable dubstep and without digital additions. I don't know if it's by this fact but the music sounds in one way so fresh.
Of course, we can feel the influences from the Jamaican masters but not only. The sound is mixed between the one of 1970's analogical productions and a modern mastering from the 2010's. Maybe be is this kind of mixture which give this sensation of freshness.
